When the Pittsburgh-area distributor for Whirlpool appliances decided to close, Whirlpool approached Hank to ask if he would be interested in setting up a dealer showroom in the Cleveland area. Thus was the beginning of the builder distributorship known as Interstate Kitchen Supply. After Whirlpool, Interstate Kitchen added General Electric and gradually began to expand into the success that it enjoys today. The first showroom was 1,250 square feet and has now grown to 5,000 square feet. Their present staff consists of eight experienced sales representatives, three office personnel, and delivery personnel operating with company trucks. Carol Depner, vice-president, praises her sales force, administrative support, and capable delivery team for all of their dedicated service, which has made the company a major appliance provider for the Greater Cleveland area.

At the main showroom located at 3800 Brookpark Road (just south of 480 at the State Road/16 South exit), customers can view displays of major appliances, ranging from refrigerators to wine cooling units, as well as outdoor entertainment must-haves. "We carry everything that a builder or remodeler could possibly need in their new homes," comments Carol. In 1994, Interstate Kitchen Supply opened a second showroom in Akron to serve Akron-Canton builders. In 2000, Interstate Kitchen moved from the original Akron location at White Pond Drive to its bright new home in the West Market Plaza.

A wide variety of appliance brands are offered  to complement Interstate Kitchen's main distributors, Whirlpool and General Electric. Some of the other popular brands include KitchenAid, GE Monogram, Viking, Sub-Zero, Maytag, Wolf, and Jenn-Air. It is obvious that selection is a top priority. Carol explains, "People today are looking for more choices and are willing to invest in them. Not only are people looking for a wider selection, but they are now more knowledgeable and involved in the decision-making process than they were in the past. Customers are interested in quieter dishwashers and washers, commercial-looking ranges, and appliances that will add to their overall kitchen appearance. They are making the kitchen a focal point of the busy home. Homeowners are also interested in convenience and saving time in this busy world and are adding washers and dryers to areas other than the laundry." Interstate Kitchen is a place where builders can send clients to make their well-informed decisions about their new home appliances.

The main business focus of Interstate Kitchen Supply is the new home builder and remodeler. Builders are kept busy enough scheduling subcontractors and dealing with other related concerns. Appliance selection should not be an added concern. Once a selection is made, Interstate offers single-source responsibility to eliminate coordination problems by working with cabinetmakers and other subcontractors to make sure that there are absolutely no problems with the customers' new appliances.
